Ghostly Encounters Theme and ‘Hook’

Last week, Term 4 began with an introduction to our term’s theme of ‘Ghostly Encounters’.

During this term, we will be studying Alfred Noyes classic narrative poem, ‘The Highwayman’, as well as the ghostly and atmospheric poetry of Charles Causley.

We had two hooks to launch the theme- the first was an art session, using charcoals to create some ghostly art with hues of black and white. There were some excellent pieces of work produced, which was great to see how the children had refined and developed their use of charcoals,  an art medium we explored last year.

The second hook was to have a campfire (using a fire pit) in the Nature area at the end of the school field. We toasted marshmallows and enjoyed some fun campfire ghost stories, which added some humour and a lighter side to the theme.
