Crime Scene Investigation!

This week in year 5, we opened our ‘MI5: Mission Survive’ topic with a bang by completing a Crime Scene Investigation.

On Wednesday, we came in to find a crime scene in our classroom! We spent the afternoon trying to unravel the mystery by becoming detectives. We learnt that everyone has unique fingerprints and DNA, which can be used to identify criminals  in real life! Following this, we used techniques similar to those used by real forensic detectives to collect the fingerprints that were left in the crime scene area. We also investigated our own finger prints, identifying whether the pattern on ours was a whirl, loop or arch. To finish, we played a game called ‘Finger Print Detectives’ to test how well we could recognise each others’ finger prints!

What a fantastically fun afternoon!
